The Story Scholarship Program Coordinator will be managing the most important program currently run by The 1947 Partition Archive (The Archive) in India. The Story Scholars Program is a donor funded scholarship program that entails Story Scholars -generally university students or professional scholars in the humanities - receiving scholarships to record oral history interviews in the field. The Scholars are selected through a very competitive process.
The Story Scholarship Program Coordinator (The Coordinator) will coordinate the entire recruitment process for the Scholars accepted to the program, as well as ensuring that critical support is provided to the Scholars as they carry out their work, on a daily basis. The Coordinator will coordinate the management and support of scholars with support from designated Field Officers and other staff working to support the program. The Coordinator is responsible for working with the Field Officers and Archivists in monitoring of the Scholars work in collaboration with various remote teams. Management and support of the scholars entails a lot of long distance communication via telephone, email and more. The coordinator also organizes bi-annual in-person orientation sessions for the scholars.
More specifically the job entails the following responsibilities:
• Follow organizational process in remote monitoring and managing of Story Scholars conducting oral history interviews in their home regions.
• Coordinate with Regional Field Officers in monitoring and managing local Story Scholars
• Strict adherence to scheduled communication with international team members as well as Story Scholars
• Attend to a large volume of email, digital and other remove communication, daily
• Strategise and conduct recruitment campaigns for Story Scholars across the country.
• Coordinate Story Scholar on boarding following strict organization protocols
• Research communities to build and maintain registers of witnesses, potential interviewees
• Match Story Scholars to interviewees in their regions
• Track Story Scholar progress following organizational protocols.
• Provide material and emotional support to the Story Scholars recording stories in the field
• Administer online oral history workshop
• Design and conduct Story Scholars orientation conferences
Desired Candidate Profile
• Excellent managerial abilities: Ability to manage and lead a large team, with at least 3 years previous experience in successfully managing a team. References are requested.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required to support the Scholars in navigating the myriad of surprises that they are confronted with as they carry out their work in India’s vast cities and rural country side.
• Ability to manage a large volume of email, text and phone communications, effectively.
• Willingness to travel extensively and on short notice
• An openness and willingness to work flexible hours, since the Coordinator must collaborate with teams across several time zones. This flexibility is an absolute requirement for this position.
• Creative problem solving abilities
• Excellent stress management abilities. It will be important for the Scholars to rely on thoughtful and calm supporters.
