Last couple of years 1M1B ( A Million for A Billion), a non- profit, carried out several experiments in the villages of Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh to create jobs by providing last mile as a service to social enterprises and by developing village entrepreneurs.
Last year a village entrepreneurship prototype done in Andhra Pradesh created 7 entrepreneurs and 16 jobs in flat 4 months (this blew everyone away!). This initiative, under the brand name Startup Gurukool is now being scaled to over 4 states of India under a large partnership involving 1M1B, the Tata Trusts and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
This partnership will now make the Startup Gurukools available to over 400 villages across 4 states (Andhra Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Karnataka and Jharkhand).
In March/ April 2018 the model along with the Fellows who make it happen, will be further showcased in New York and will be available for scale up to United Nations member countries.
DST, 1M1B Foundation and Tata Trusts are establishing Startup Gurukool in 4 states ofIndia Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Uttarakhand. The goal of the Startup Gurukool is to accelerate indigenous technologies to rural markets and provide social entrepreneurs aligned to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) market access as a service, enabling creation of jobs for people living in the villages and creating self sustainable enterprises.
We are looking for 5 Startup Gurukool Fellows
Desired Experience: 2- 4 years (experience in the social sector, especially education, entrepreneurship, jobs andhealthcare will be preferred)
Location: Andhra Pradesh, Uttrakhand , Jharkhand and Karnataka
Assignment duration: 1, August 2017 – 30, January 2018 (full time)
Fellowship: Rs 35,000 per month, plus Rs 10,000 per month for expenses (boarding will be provided in addition)
Benefits to the Fellows:
1. 3 outstanding fellows will be invited to present their work at the 1M1B forSDG event at the United Nations in New York in April 2018.
2. Grow your network. Interact with diplomats, global startups and senior experts from the industry, government and the development sector.
3. On completion, Fellows will be encouraged to start a social venture with an opportunity to pitch for Incubation support and seed capital at Social Alpha (A Tata Trusts Initiative)
