Job Title: Project Coordinator –Human Rights and Grievance Mechanisms Project (Testing grievance mechanisms in the garment sector in Bangalore)

Location: Bangalore

Job Description: We are looking for a ‘Project Coordinator– Human Rights and Grievance Mechanisms’ who will manage our project to test grievance mechanism to address complaints of garment workers in Bangalore. The person will work closely with trade unions such as the Garment Labour Union to document complaints, advise and counsel workers and help them file cases at appropriate judicial and non-judicial grievance mechanisms.

Required Qualifications: 1. A graduate degree in law desirable.
2. A minimum of four years relevant work experience in supporting CSOs/networks and an active interest in worker’s issues.
3. A keen interest in defending human and labour rights.
4. Fluent in both spoken and written English
5. Knowledge of Kannada desirable (ability to translate documents and conduct trainings in Kannada is an advantage).
6. Good interpersonal and team-working skills: ability to network with other organizations and NGOs in the program area.
7. Good knowledge of the local context and sensitivities desirable.

The candidate should be able to work independently and comfortable in interacting with different stakeholders; including workers, labor organizations, trade unions, officials, company representatives etc. in the program area.

Conditions: The position is based at Cividep’s office in Bangalore but the candidate would be required to work from a field office located near garment industries in North Bangalore at least once a week.

Monthly salary will be Rs. 40 000 negotiable (depending upon qualifications and experience).
