Vacancy of Senior Coordination Officer in United Nations New Delhi

Responsibilities
• Represent UN Environment in India, promote the visibility and implementation of its mandate and programmes and strengthen the partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and other environmental development partners in India.

• Assist the Government and other partners in identifying environmental needs and priorities and emerging issues and to integrate environmental considerations into national and local development processes.
• Provide advice to the UN Resident Coordinator on environmental matters.
• Represent UN Environment in the UN Country Team, promote the integration of environmental considerations in UN country programming and project development, provide advice on environmental issues and participate in/lead relevant working groups.
• Raise UN Environment's media profile in India through media relations and targetted public information and outreach activities.
• Coordinate the development of a portfolio of UN Environment programmes, initiatives and projects in and with India (including South-South) and help with resource mobilisation, both financial and in-kind, from the government and other partners including the private sector for their implementation.
•In coordination with the relevant Divisions in UN Environment, support and guide the effective implementation of UN Environment programmes and projects in India.
•Provide political intelligence and advice to UN Environment Senior Management (including through political briefs and Executive Director briefs) regarding environment and sustainable development issues in India and their potential impact on UN Environment's work, programmes and priorities.
•Ensure the smooth functioning of the office, overseeing assigned staff and their performance; prepare and monitor the budget for the office.
•Coordinate the organization of high level UN Environment official visits to India and for visits of India Government or other Indian partners to UN Environment Headquarters or to other UN Environment offices.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Economics, Environmental Studies, Law, Social Sciences, Political Science, Management or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in India, on sustainable development and environment issues, including operations management and supervisory experience, as well as at least five years working at the international levels is highly desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.

Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
