Study in India Program on Public Health in India

The Center for Public Health, School of Health Systems Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) welcomes applications for its 'Study in India Program on Public Health in India'.

About the Program:

With rapid economic growth and urbanization, with increase in globalization and trade and with growing inequities between nations and within nations, public health has become more of a challenge than ever before. Public health or the health of populations is the outcome of health systems, which are a composite of the organization of clinical health care services, preventive and promotive health care, and action on the social determinants of health. Health systems are complex adaptive systems whose evolution is influenced by their own path of development, the socio-cultural and economic contexts in which they evolve and the influence wielded by different stakeholders. Studying health systems across national and International contexts, helps understand how health systems have evolved in other nations; it also makes us reflect on our own health systems with a holistic perspective.

The Study in India Program on Public Health has the following objectives:

To understand the challenges of Public Health in India and how Public Health Policy and Strategies seek to address these challenges.
To study the practices of Public and Private Health Care Systems and their impact on Public Health.
To provide opportunity of cross-cultural experiences on Public Health issues through field based Internship and through seminars organized by the host institution.
To provide exposure to the multi-faceted culture in India
